Case Study: TOYO TIRES Turnpike

The mountain view from Hakone Daikanyama is heralded as one of Japan's 100 most beautiful spots. In the first such exercise of naming rights in Japan, this stretch of road was taken over for development as a toll road by the Tokyu Group and in 1965 was renamed the TOYO TIRES Turnpike (formerly the Hakone Turnpike).

The DBJ Initiative

In Japan's first infrastructure fund initiative, DJB collaborated with Australian investment bank Macquarie Bank in equity participation to facilitate business transfer transactions for the former Hakone Turnpike. Further, we are accommodating funds through project finance in cooperation with the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd., and Sumitomo Trust and Banking Company, Limited. Introducing the Macquarie Group's overseas road project expertise will increase convenience for users and have various other benefits, such as easing traffic congestion in the area.
