Case Study: Isuzu Motors Ltd.

Isuzu Motors, with its advanced diesel engine technology, develops, manufactures and markets environmentally friendly trucks worldwide. In August 2007, Isuzu announced a medium-term business plan. In accordance with this plan, the company is working to improve its overall revenue base, enhance its basic technologies and overseas business operations, and expand its product lineup, particularly in diesel engine development. In these ways, the company is strategically positioning itself as a global leader in commercial truck and diesel engines.

The DBJ Initiative

We formed the Isuzu Motors Fund to acquire a percentage of the preferred stock that Isuzu issued in December 2002. The fund, which consists of investments by DBJ and close partners in Isuzu's value chain, acquired the preferred shares through UBS Japan. The fund's objectives are to provide medium-term support for Isuzu's organization, and to increase both its growth and its investor value.
