DBJ Launches Women Entrepreneurs Center

The Development Bank of Japan (T?ru Hashimoto, President and CEO) has established a new center designed to nurture companies created by women. The DBJ Women Entrepreneurs Center (DBJ-WEC) will help women-led firms develop into growth businesses that can bring about healthy social and economic change.

Targeting new, female-run businesses showing strong potential for innovative growth, the Center will award financial incentives to winners of business plan competitions. After each competition, winners will be further supported through mentoring, network-building advice, and other entrepreneurial services.

Information on the first competition, including application guidelines, will be announced in late November.

With a shrinking workforce caused by a stagnating economy and an ageing population, compounded by the many challenges of rebuilding from the 3.11 2011 disaster, Japan needs the energy and new perspectives of motivated women entrepreneurs. DBJ is keen to provide aspiring businesswomen with integrated support in areas including financing, networking, and entrepreneurial skills.
