DBJ a Winner at ADFIAP Awards 2021 Recognition Given to DBJ Sustainability Linked Loans with Engagement Dialogue

Development Bank of Japan Inc. (DBJ) has been adjudged a winner by the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP*1) for outstanding work in the category of Environmental Development. In selecting DBJ for the award, ADFIAP cited the DBJ Sustainability Linked Loans with Engagement Dialogue. The 2021 awards were presented at the ADFIAP General Meeting held virtually on the 27th and 28th of October, 2021.

The ADFIAP Awards recognize the work of development finance institutions with distinguished achievements in the Asia Pacific region. The aim of the awards is to publicize deals and projects which are both outstanding and instructive, as well as to share financial methods and techniques.

Sustainability linked loans are based on the Sustainability Linked Loan Principles established by the Loan Market Association (the SLLP) and the Green Loan and Sustainability Linked Loan Guidelines established by the Ministry of the Environment (the MOE Guidelines). DBJ, as the lender, engages with borrowers in setting sustainability performance targets (SPTs) which can best help them to raise their level of sustainability management. Through regular dialogue during the loan period, DBJ stands by its borrowers as they work toward achieving these SPTs.

While sustainability linked loans are expanding globally, DBJ's provision of dialogue as an added value served to help customers improve their sustainability management, resulting in its receiving the highest evaluation overall and selection for the ADFIAP award.

In line with its corporate philosophy of "Designing the Future with Financial Expertise," DBJ will continue to actively support its clients' efforts to develop markets for growth capital, revitalize local economies, and build competitiveness.
