Joint Research with the NUS Asian Institute of Digital Finance on the Use of AI in Finance

Development Bank of Japan Inc. (“DBJ”) has entered into a research collaboration agreement with the Asian Institute of Digital Finance at the National University of Singapore (“NUS AIDF”) to advance cooperation in research and development in the financial sector, including the application of artificial intelligence (“AI”).

DBJ and NUS AIDF have engaged in ongoing exchanges of views and discussions on themes including the use of AI in finance and talent development in this field. Through these discussions, the two parties have considered how AI technologies may be applied in financial practice to enhance the sophistication and efficiency of operations, and have now agreed to undertake joint research and development based on specific practical business challenges.

The research and development will be conducted by NUS AIDF, a university-level research institute jointly founded by NUS, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (“MAS”), and the National Research Foundation (“NRF”). NUS AIDF is one of Asia’s leading digital finance research institutions, promoting an integrated approach to academic research, talent development, and practical application.

NUS AIDF also operates in an environment that connects it with international organizations, as well as private-sector participants in capital markets and the financial industry across Asia, and carries out research and educational activities from a global perspective.

This research and development initiative will focus primarily on empirical study of themes related to supporting investment and financing assessments through the use of AI technologies. This initiative remains at the research and validation stage, and any specific business implementation or deployment will be considered in light of future research outcomes.

DBJ will continue to collaborate with leading academic institutions and research centers in Japan and abroad in order to incorporate cutting-edge knowledge into practice, foster talent development, and further enhance the sophistication of its operations.
