Development Bank of Japan Inc.
DBJ Asset Management Co., Ltd.

At the Annual Meeting of the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP) *1 held from September 23 to 25, 2026, Development Bank of Japan Inc. (DBJ, headed by President and CEO Hirofumi Maki and located in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has been selected as WINNER in the Environmental Development Category of the ADFIAP Awards 2026 in recognition of its promotion of Zero-Energy Renovation (“Zenove”) projects.

The ADFIAP Awards recognize development finance institutions in the Asia-Pacific region that have made outstanding achievements, with the aim of publicizing excellent and enlightening deals and initiatives in the region and sharing financial methods and technologies.

DBJ, together with DBJ Asset Management Co., Ltd. (DBJAM, headed by President and CEO Shoichiro Kubota) and Nikken Sekkei Ltd. (headed by President and CEO Atsushi Omatsu), is advancing Zenove projects, seeking to achieve net-zero emissions in the real estate sector by improving the environmental performance of existing buildings through renovation, thereby realizing both CO2 reduction and enhanced real estate value. In April 2025, the first Zenove project, the 57-year-old Nikken Building No. 1 in Chuo-ku, Osaka, was completed.

Through Zenove projects, DBJ aims to expand the market for environmental retrofitting of existing buildings, which account for the majority of Japan's office building stock, by visualizing the economic value of environmental upgrades and incorporating it into investment decision-making. In addition, the projects seek to establish a new market framework in which environmental improvements are recognized as investment opportunities by quantifying CO2 reductions, assigning a carbon price to those reductions, and visualizing how enhanced environmental performance contributes to increases in real estate value.

DBJ will continue to expand the reach of the Zenove initiative and contribute to the growth of the environmental retrofit market and the acceleration of net-zero efforts across the real estate industry.
