Supporting Minomachiya K.K. by Extending a Subordinated Equity Loan to Revitalize the Business of Traditional Japanese-Style Homes (Special Investment Operations)

Minomachiya K.K. (headquarters: Mino, Gifu Prefecture) was founded by Note Renovation & Design, Inc. (headquarters: Sasayama, Hyogo Prefecture), which undertakes regional revitalization using traditional Japanese-style homes (kominka); and Marujyu Paper Company (headquarters: Mino, Gifu Prefecture), which manufactures Mino washi (Mino Japanese paper) by machine. Minomachiya was established in April 2018 as a company to utilize and manage the old Japanese-style home of Saijiro Matsuhisa, who was a paper merchant. This home is over 100 years old and is owned by Mino City, Gifu Prefecture.

Mino City is leasing the home to Minomach. So that it can be used as a tourism resource. Minomachiya is renovating the old home into a washi showroom and hotel to create a new tourism resource. The technology used to make Mino washi by hand is registered on the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list.

Through the Tokai Region Core Industry Support Investment L.P., which is a joint fund formed by the Juroku Bank and Juroku Lease Co., Ltd., DBJ provided risk-money to Minomachiya. This financial support is in the form of a subordinated equity loan for activities that contribute to the promotion of tourism, leveraging historical resources in Mino, Gifu Prefecture, which is known as the "washi and udatsu(traditional roof extensions) town."
