Based in Tokyo's Shinjuku-ku, SkyDrive is a Japanese start-up that develops, manufactures, and sells next-generation air mobility "flying cars" that transport people, and "logistics drones" that excel in carrying heavy loads.
Flying cars are electrically powered, manned aircraft capable of vertical takeoffs and landings. Compared with existing vehicles such as helicopters, flying cars can significantly reduce manufacturing and operating costs. They are expected to see rapid growth in demand as an alternative means of transportation for communities around the world, especially in urban areas where traffic congestion is a chronic problem. In Japan, flying cars promise to play a key role in building a sustainable transport system. Unaffected by ground transport infrastructure, they avoid economic losses caused by urban traffic congestion. They also offer an effective means of lightening the increasing financial burdens of repairing roads, bridges, and other infrastructure. The system can also contribute to the revitalization of local economies by facilitating tourism and other industries, and help in building safe, secure local communities through disaster relief and other means. And, as the domestic workforce grows smaller, logistics drones can be used in the transportation of goods across all sectors of industry.
In July 2020, DBJ invested in SkyDrive through its Society 5.0 investment program. Through this investment, not only do we support the company itself. By serving as a nexus between SkyDrive, the government, and firms operating in every field of industry, we take part in the creation of the social infrastructure required for a quick transition to a sustainable society and the effective use of airspace.
