Development Bank of Japan Inc. ("DBJ") is pleased to report that Dr. John Martinis, co-founder of Qolab Inc. ("Qolab"; headquartered in Los Angeles, USA; CEO Alan Ho), has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for the year 2025.
In 2019, Dr. Martinis led a team that achieved quantum supremacy, demonstrating that a quantum computer could perform calculations faster than classical supercomputers. In 2020, he co-founded Qolab, where he has since been advancing the development of commercial quantum chips.
DBJ will accelerate Qolab's business development in collaboration with the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, which has world-class superconducting electronics manufacturing technology; other Japanese research institutes; and leading domestic business companies with related technologies. DBJ will support Japan's position as a foundry for superconducting quantum computers and the early realization of the social implementation of quantum computers.
DBJ sincerely congratulates Dr. Martinis on receiving the Nobel Prize in Physics. We will continue to support the development of the quantum computing industry in close partnership with Qolab and all relevant stakeholders.
