About DBJ Sustainability Bonds
Beginning with antipollution measures implemented in the late 1960s and early 1970s, DBJ has provided more than ¥3 trillion in investments and loans for environmental projects over the past 40 years.
In the fiscal year 2004, DBJ began its DBJ Environmentally Rated Loan Program based on knowledge cultivated for over five decades. DBJ developed a screening (rating) system that scores companies on the level of their environmental management and then applies one of three different interest rates reflecting that effort. This was the world’s first incorporation of environmental ratings in financing menus.
In fiscal year 2011, we introduced the DBJ Green Building Certification, which is designed to provide financial support for environmental and socially considerate initiatives.
DBJ joined the Green Bond Principles (GBP) as an issuer member in January 2017. GBP is composed of International Capital Market Association (ICMA) and investors, issuers, and underwriters. They are responsible for updating annually the Green Bond Principles, which are voluntary process guidelines that recommend transparency and disclosure and promote integrity in the development of the Green Bond market by clarifying the approach for issuance of a Green Bond.
