Supply of Capital for New Business Start-up by Hokkaido Cool Logistics Place (Special Investment Operations)

Hokkaido Cool Logistics Place Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Tomakomai, Hokkaido), is a domestic leader in terms of the volume of cargo it handles. The company was established in December 2017 by Tomakomai Futo Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Tomakomai, Hokkaido; "TOMAF"), which has its business site at Tomakomai Port. The company was set up to establish the largest refrigerated and frozen food warehouse in Hokkaido at Tomakomai Port, a distribution port situated close to Shin-Chitose.

Hokkaido Cool Logistics Place plans to develop a new distribution model that supplements existing, mainly industrial and distribution-type, logistics networks in Hokkaido with its newly established port-located refrigerator and freezer warehouse. The goal is to contribute to further promoting the food industry in Hokkaido, expanding the export of local products, and creating high added value for the industry in Hokkaido through the enhancement of distribution. The company aims to improve distribution by (1) stabilizing and equalizing foods shipments within Hokkaido, (2) clustering and nurturing companies in the food processing industry, (3) carrying mixed and shared loads of local Hokkaido products, and (4) fortifying the system for imports and exports in cooperation with airports.

DBJ is providing financial support for the company's business expansion, including aiding the launch of new businesses via investments from the Special Investment Operations, and also by arranging a syndicated loan with six banks, including local financial institutions. This reflects DBJ's evaluation that the activities being carried out by Hokkaido Cool Logistics Place are contributing to the vitalization and strengthening of Hokkaido's food industry competitiveness by upgrading distribution through the fortification of functions at the Tomakomai Port.
