Supply of Capital to Set Up LNG Storage and Power Generation Facilities in the Ishikari Bay New Port Area

Hokkaido Gas Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Sapporo, Hokkaido), is setting up an Ishikari LNG base, the only large-scale LNG*1 base in Hokkaido, at the Ishikari Bay New Port area, located around 15 kilometers north of Sapporo. The base consists of two LNG storage tanks (capacity of Tank No. 1: 180,000 kL; Tank No. 2: 200,000 kL). In addition, Hokkaido Gas owns and operates an LNG power plant on the site: Hokkaido Gas Ishikari Power Plant (total capacity of 78,000 kW, commercial operations launched in October 2018).

Adjacent to the Ishikari LNG base, Hokkaido Electric Power Co., Inc. (headquarters: Sapporo, Hokkaido), set up and operates its first LNG thermal power station, the Ishikari Bay New Port Power Station (capacity of roughly 570,000 kW; commercial operations launched in February 2019). In addition, Hokkaido Electric possesses one LNG storage tank (Tank No. 3: 230,000 kL) on the Ishikari LNG base as a fuel supply facility.*2

DBJ believes these activities being carried out by these two companies in the Ishikari Bay New Port area will contribute to a stable supply of LNG as well as electrical power in Hokkaido owing to the diversification of power sources. In light of this, DBJ is lending its support by extending financing for Hokkaido Gas's Tank No. 2 and Hokkaido Electric's power station at the Ishikari Bay New Port Power Station.

*1: LNG stands for liquefied natural gas.
*2: Hokkaido Gas and Hokkaido Electric Power signed a basic agreement on joint usage of the Ishikari LNG base when operations were launched. Owing to this, Hokkaido Electric set up Tank No. 3 at the base.
