Measures to Tackle Restoration after the Kumamoto Earthquakes

After the completion of restoration, reconstruction, and recovery of Kumamoto, which was devastated by earthquakes in 2016, DBJ, in cooperation with financial institutions that have wide networks and customer bases in the disaster-stricken area, including Higin Capital Co., Ltd., the Higo Bank, Ltd., and Kagoshima Bank, Ltd., provided detailed support to business operators that will contribute to the local economy going forward, taking into account the degree of damage incurred and the needs of the respective business operators.

(1) Organization & systems
DBJ set up the Kumamoto Earthquake Reconstruction Support Office in 2016 at its Kyushu Branch to facilitate the speedy provision of aid for restoration. The head office and branches worked together while supplying information related to restoration after the quakes and cooperating with other related institutions.

(2) Financing
The Kyushu Branch is providing financial support to companies that have businesses that contribute to the restoration and reconstruction of the area. Support is being provided through investment and financing as a part of Crisis Response Operations, the creation of the Kumamoto Reconstruction Support Fund, and the supply of risk money.
