In October 2020, DBJ became the first investor in Asia to contribute to the Controlled Environment Greenhouse Fund II, LLC, managed by the Oregon-based Equilibrium Capital Management, Inc. The fund is Equilibrium's second to invest in environmentally friendly greenhouses in North America.
The food and agricultural industry is essential to human life.
As global food demand swells and climate change-related resource constraints become a social issue, environmentally friendly agriculture is gaining traction across the world, especially in Europe and North America. Its technologies include environmentally controlled facilities and cultivation by means of nutrient solutions. Environmentally friendly agriculture is expected to grow in Asia, including Japan, as if offers high production efficiency by means such as indoor vertical cultivation and the recycling and reuse of water resources in closed environments. Cultivation environments are not affected by locational characteristics.
Through its investment in the fund, DBJ will keep abreast of global trends in the food and agriculture sector and acquire the latest knowledge from best practices overseas. As we contribute to the growth of the food and agriculture industry in Japan, we will look for new ways to collaborate with Equilibrium and invest in future food and agriculture funds.
