DBJ Signs Investment Agreement with MPI-2 Investment LP,a Venture Capital Fund Specializing in Medical Devices

Development Bank of Japan Inc. ("DBJ") has signed an investment agreement with MPI-2 Investment Limited Partnership ("the Fund"), which invests in medical device venture companies in Japan, the United States and elsewhere.

MedVenture Partners, which manages the Fund, is a venture capital firm founded in 2013 by experienced members of the medical device community. It aims, through investment, to foster the growth of Japanese companies in the medical device field, connect foreign venture firms with large Japanese companies, and thus contribute to the development of a medical device ecosystem in Japan.

The Fund is the second in its line. The first, which was established in November 2013, was also employed for the same bridge-building purposes. The Fund is anticipated to go yet further in helping to build a vital medical device ecosystem in this country.

To spur innovation in the health care field, DBJ supports business development in areas including pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Investment in the Fund is one means of promoting this policy.

For DBJ, it is important that the knowledge gained through this endeavor benefit the companies involved. Projects that create value for manufacturers of medical devices are in line with our corporate philosophy: "Applying financial expertise to design the future - we open up new frontiers to resolve the issues of our clients and society and promote sustainable development for Japan and the world."
