Development Bank of Japan Inc. ("DBJ") has signed to invest in the decarbonization growth equity fund ("the Fund") managed by OGCI Climate Investments LLP ("Climate Investment," or "CI"), headquartered in the UK.
CI, established in 2016 by members of the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative to lead the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through technology investment and innovation, invests in decarbonization technologies across the carbon value chain and has developed a methodology for measurement standards for greenhouse gas emission reductions.
The Fund aims to provide growth capital for decarbonization technologies in high-emission industries such as energy, industry, transportation, buildings & construction, and agriculture, targeting growth-stage startups with proven technologies. DBJ is the first financial institution to invest in the Fund.
DBJ has contributed to policy making through multiple government councils and has provided decarbonization-related investments. Through this investment, DBJ aims to understand investment trends in decarbonizing high-emission industries and promote innovation by leveraging its risk capital, thereby contributing to the realization of carbon neutrality.
DBJ will support our clients' efforts to achieve carbon neutrality in Japan in accordance with our corporate philosophy, "Design the future with financial expertise: Continue to expand financial frontiers; Provide the best solutions for customers and society; Pursue sustainable development for Japan and the world."
